THE ASIAN BUTTERFLY COLLECTION

I just finished a new series of paintings. This series is called THE ASIAN BUTTERFLY COLLECTION
I had this idea in the middle of the night and woke up and had to get started while it was fresh in my imagination. They were so much fun to do. I'll post one every other day, so you can get a good look.

A wonderful feeling

If I didn't have art as a way to express myself, I think I would probably go crazy. Creating things has always been a theraputic activity for me. I can get so lost in my work and yet so focused at the same time. It's a wonderful feeling.

I'mmmmmmm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!   Had a great time in Cancun!  I'll post a few pictures.  The weather was perfect and the water was the most beautiful color of blue-green I've ever seen.  I managed to work on some new pieces of art there too, that I just finished this morning here at home.  It's always so nice to come home...

CELEBRATE YOURSELF

Hold tightyly to your inner child and remind her that she is wonderful and strong and never alone.  Help her to understand and to grow, and she will help you to fly forever with her childlike wings...

Submission to Somerset Studio-Artful Blogging

This was my very first post, and I wasn't quite sure what I was even doing...

Well, this is my very 1st blog.  The date is January 31, 2009.  My name is Kelly.  I'm 43 years young :)  Love really is my religion.  I think that word covers all that is important in this life.

I'm excited to see what blogging brings to my life...we'll see...

Now I'm on Post # 78...Six months later...I think I'm getting the hang of this blogging thing :)  I've also figured out what blogging has brought to my life:  You know that feeling you get when you have an explosion of ideas that all fit together, and you just know that you've got something good brewing up for your next creation?  When suddenly there is just not enough time in the day to fit in everything creative that you want to get done-your mind won't really concentrate on anything but this great, fantastic, wonderful, magical idea that is just bursting from your seams?...Well that's how I've been feeling all the time now that I created my own blog!
Not only am I more in tune with my own creativity, but I am constantly tapping into the creative energy of all these wonderful artists that I am "meeting" through the blog world.
I am a Mother of two teenagers.  One who is now 18 and about to move away to college.  The other is almost 17 and will be a junior in high school.  I've been dealing lately with some of the "empty nest blues".  If being a Mother isn't enough to feel a bit down now and then, then being an "artsy" type personality certainly ensures those little bouts of depression.   But I do see light.  A light so bright through blogging with other artists.  I feel like it just instantly lifts me up and gets me back on track and into my creative zone, where I am most happiest.  I know there will still be moments when I long for my growing kids to be little again, but I fear loneliness no more.  I'm not even dreading winter!  Bring on the Light!!!

FOUR SISTERS

This is a portrait I did for my good friend Jeri Lynn Ellis.  She and her husband Steve have four daughters who really are the most beautiful girls you've ever seen.  She was up north and we got to visit, and I wanted to make something for her to take home.  This is what I came up with.  I really like it.  FOUR SISTERS

Esther

I just spoke with Esther...she is my husbands grandmother and she is about to die any day.  She is a lovely woman that I love very much.  Talking to her is easy for me...I don't feel like we are saying goodbye.  I've asked her to try to communicate with me from heaven and she said that she will try her best.  She and I have a certain connection, and I will miss the fact that she isn't on this earth anymore, but I will be so happy to know that she is with her true love and is healthy and happy and home.  I know I will see her again, and will "feel" her when she sends me love from above.  She is beautiful.

Childhood memory

When I was about 5 or 6 I had a duck named Cinderella.  My brother who is a year and a half younger than me had a duck named Batman.  His was black and mine was yellow.  They ran around our back yard and ate snails.  I don't think we had them for more than a few months and then brought them to a park with a lake and let them be with other ducks.  My memory is a little hazy, but I think my next painting will be of Batman and Cinderella-should be fun for me...

ART And Soul

I'm so excited because I just signed up to go to the ART And Soul workshop in Portland this October!  I've been there once before on the Vendor Night, and it was so inspiring.  So many gifted artists all together in one room-it was heaven!  This time I will go to the Vendor Night and get totally inspired, and then the following day I will be taking a class with one of my very favorite artists- Lisa Kaus!   I'm sooooooooooo excited- I can't wait!

Goals

So I'm setting goals for myself and then doing what it takes to meet those goals.  Each time I meet one, I'll set another.  I should try to keep this going my entire lifetime!

Riding With the Tide

Riding with the tide...sometimes the water is so smooth and calm that it doesn't seem real.  Then the wind picks up and the illusion of glass is shattered.  Waves are getting bigger and stronger, and you have to hold on so tightly or you may get thrown from the boat.  Just as you're taking your last breath, and thinking you are about to drown, the wind lets go and the storm passes...you climb back into the boat and lay there exhausted.  You gather your courage once again, a little wiser this time, and go with the flow of the water.  Hopefully when the wind picks up again, you'll be a little more prepared.  You realize that when the water is smooth and beautiful, that it is real.  It's not an illusion.  You soak up all the beauty and calmness and it gives you strength for the next storm, without even having to prepare for it, just naturally.  You learn to ride with the tide, in all it's conditions.  Everything is new...Everything is an adventure...Everything is a chance to grow...
